BBC Breakfast presenter shake-up sparks frenzy as fan-favourite 'returns'

BBC Breakfast: Carol praises Luxmy after telling 'trunk' joke

On Thursday's instalment of BBC Breakfast, Charlie Stayt was bringing viewers the latest headlines of the day.

Although people are used to seeing him front the programme alongside Naga Munchetty, the 49-year-old was absent from her usual spot on the sofa.

Instead, Luxmy Gopal was at the helm with Charlie, who often stands in as a presenter for the BBC show on weekends.

It wasn't long before people watching took to Twitter to praise her being in the spotlight with Charlie, with many wanting a rotation of presenters to become a regular thing.

One person wrote: "Great to see Luxmy this morning on the breakfast sofa."

Recently, Luxmy revealed she was leaving her role at BBC Look North after securing a permanent role on BBC London.

The TV star is usually seen broadcasting live from various locations across the UK as she brings news segments to the presenters back in the studio.

Although she's no stranger to holding down the fort as she was on the red sofa last weekend alongside Roger Johnson.

Luxmy commented: "Well, it's got a trunk."

Although Charlie missed the comment, weather presenter Carol Kirkwood said: "I liked Luxmy's joke about having a trunk!"

The BBC host replied: "At least you noticed it, Carol! Nobody else, absolute tumbleweed elsewhere, but thank you, Carol."

Asking if she'd repeat it, Charlie asked: "Is that more agony?"

She replied: "It's not worth repeating, if you've got to repeat a joke, it's just nope."

Highlighting Carol caught onto it, Luxmy joked she was now her favourite.

BBC Breakfast continues weekdays on BBC One form 6am.
