Sir Jim Ratcliffe has made the ruthless decision to cut free staff lunches in his latest attempt to slash spending costs at Manchester United. The INEOS boss has reportedly introduced a series of new measures at the club, as he continues his crackdown following his minority stake purchase earlier this year.

Prior to Ratcliffe's arrival, matchday staff received complimentary lunch boxes when working at a fixture.

The package included a sandwich, bag of crisps, cereal bar and a soft drink to ensure employees could eat during their shift.

However, according to the Daily Mail, staff arrived at the Fulham game on Friday night to find out the luxury of free food had been removed. Instead, they were said to have been offered leftovers from food not eaten by corporate guests.

United however, have denied those claims. The club told the Mail that the food was made exclusively for employees after extra quantities had been made.

The decision is said to have followed a review by Ratcliffe, that concluded a lot of the food provided in the lunchboxes was not eaten and went to waste. And it's not the only new regulation with the number of complimentary programmes given to guests also being reduced.

Sky has slashed the price of its Sky Sports, Sky Stream, Sky TV and Netflix bundle in an unbeatable new deal that saves £216 and includes 1,400 live matches across the Premier League, EFL and more.

With Ultra HD included at no extra cost, football fans can enjoy the 2024/25 season with crystal clear picture quality.

Prior to the 2024/25 campaign, fans who paid extra to watch matches from private boxes at Old Trafford automatically received a matchday programme. For the Fulham clash however, guests were limited to one magazine between two.

United attributed that cutdown to an attempt to prevent excess waste. The club have reportedly claimed that large numbers of the complimentary programmes were being found in rubbish bins after games.

Matchday hospitality at Old Trafford can cost up to £550 per person. As well as pre-match food, guests are also offered prime, padded seats for matches, with the Sir Bobby Charlton Stand one area of the stadium that incorporates guests.

Ratcliffe's latest decisions follow 250 staff members being made redundant in July. The cutbacks come amid the 71-year-old reportedly looking into moving the club to a new home, dubbed the 'Wembley of the north' by fans and pundits.

United have also splashed out more than £130million on new players in the current transfer window. That figure is set to rise further with club pursuing PSG midfielder Manuel Ugarte, with a £51m deal having said to have been agreed between the two clubs.
