BBC Escape to the Country star 'deflated' after 'letting down' buyer with mystery house

Escape to the Country host 'deflated' by reaction to property

Escape to the Country's Steve Brown was left feeling rather "deflated" after a prospective buyer showed less enthusiasm than he'd hoped for.

In the latest episode, which aired on Wednesday, presenter Steve went on a picturesque journey through Cornwall, aiding businesswoman Viv in her search for a perfect home that could also accommodate holiday guests.

She had set off from Surbiton, South West London, dreaming of settling down in the idyllic English county.

Viv, alongside her friend Karen, scrutinised the potential dwellings that Steve had picked out for them. However, their visit to the third and mystery house - which Steve believed would tick all the boxes for Viv - resulted in an unexpected letdown.

Viv couldn't hide her disappointment, remarking that the property just didn't have that certain "X factor" she was seeking. Steve pleaded with her to remain open-minded and then confided to the audience with a sigh: "That wasn't quite the entrance I was hoping for I suppose. I'm a little bit deflated with it because I know how much potential there is in this property and I'm hoping that they'll start to see that."

Despite Steve's efforts and the inclusion of a self-contained annex ideal for Viv's plans to host holidaymakers, her verdict remained unchanged.

After a good look around, she concluded to Steve that the property simply wasn't up to scratch, saying: "For me the house still needs work and it does need updating," reports Wales Online.

BBC show enthusiasts were evidently in sync with Viv's sentiment. A viewer took to Twitter, expressing: "Poor Viv, she looks so disappointed and I don't blame her. The properties, apart from the first, are very disappointing."

Even though she wasn't thrilled with house number three, Viv was already smitten with the initial property presented by Steve.

Wrapping up the episode, Viv disclosed her intent to schedule another look: "I had a good feeling about that house even before we walked in, so I would love to revisit that property for sure. I made a plan to come back to Cornwall next week and I'll definitely see that property again."

In the concluding moments of the show, it was unveiled that Viv had actually made an offer just a few doors away from her favored house.

Escape to the Country returns on Thursday at 3pm on BBC One.
