The One Show: Lauren Laverne pays tribute to lifeboat volunteer

Myleene Klass couldn't hold back her tears live on ITV's Loose Women as she opened up about her best mate's cancer diagnosis.

Lauren Laverne, of Desert Island Discs fame, shared her health news on social media this morning (August 21), writing: "Right then, some personal news… I recently had a cancer diagnosis.

"It was (thank God) caught early and unexpectedly during a screening test and I am expected to make a full recovery. 

"I'm in hospital at the moment and wanted to take this moment to say thank you: Firstly to the medical teams who have got me this far with incredible skill and kindness."

Myleene praised her best pal for raising awareness of the condition and encouraging other women to go for their own screening tests.

Myleene's co-star Coleen Nolan kicked the segment off by saying: "Myleene, I know Lauren is very close to your heart." Myleene agreed: "Urgh, yeah. She’s my bestie." 

But she struggled to get any more words out as she broke down in tears, taking a deep breath to calm herself as they streamed down her cheeks. 

Her co-stars reassured her: "You got this, you got this babes. We've got tissues."

"The fact that you get to see what an incredible woman she is using this platform to say get tested. If you’ve got any niggling feeling or worry just go and get checked. And your loved ones as well," she urged. 

Lauren has urged anyone who is "avoiding a test or putting off an appointment" to "get yourself checked out", urging: "Please, please do it today." She added: "Half of us will get cancer at some point, and if you do, finding out ASAP is everything.

"It's usually my job to bring the good vibes on air but any you have to spare are very much welcome here. Sending loads of love to anyone in a similar boat, or who has made it back to shore. "

Myleene admitted Lauren wouldn't enjoy her crying, insisting: "Oh she’s gonna tell me off! She’s godmother to my kids, I’m godmother to her children, we go on holidays. I’ve actually just come back from holiday. She’s gonna tell me off!

"This is so Lauren, that she uses her platform even in times of vulnerability to help others. She’s only 46 so the fact that she’s speaking out saying, ‘Get tested'..."

Coleen chimed in: "Well she’s very positive about the outcome."

Myleene pressed on: "It just shows you cancer doesn’t discriminate. We’ve got King Charles talking about this and Princess Catherine, and now my best mate.
