Piers Morgan 'set to return to GMB' almost four years on from Meghan Markle storm

Piers Morgan's final appearance on Good Morning Britain back in 2021 culminated in him furiously storming out after a heated disagreement with weatherman Alex Beresford over Meghan Markle.

Scenes of him dramatically storming out and later refusing to apologise to Meghan, opting to resign instead, made headlines across the nation. 57,000 Ofcom complaints were made about Piers' views - including one from Prince Harry's wife herself.

Yet now the storm has died down, could Piers be set to return to the show he once successfully fronted? He recently made a guest return to ITV to discuss his TalkTV interview with "Baby Reindeer stalker" Fiona Harvey, on Lorraine Kelly's show.

Now Gambling.com's James Leyfield has suggested Piers could be all set to "storm back in" to his old slot. He suggested that Piers was "evens to head back to the GMB studio for a guest presenting stint, and 11/8 to be the show's next permanent presenter".

function loadOvpScript(){let el=document.createElement('script');el.setAttribute('src','https://live.primis.tech/live/liveView.php?s=114945&playerApiId=v114945');document.getElementById('ovp-primis').appendChild(el)} window.top.addEventListener('primisPlayerInit',e=>{try{if(e.detail&&e.detail.playerApiId==="v114945"){if(window.document.getElementsByClassName('jwplayer')[0]){e.detail.float('disable')}}}catch(e){}});window.addEventListener('DOMContentLoaded',()=>{setTimeout(()=>{if(typeof flagTcfLoaded!=='undefined'&&flagTcfLoaded===!0){loadOvpScript() ExpressApp.Log('[Load] OVP flagTcfLoaded',new Date())}else{document.addEventListener("tcfLoaded",()=>{loadOvpScript() ExpressApp.Log('[Load] OVP tcfLoaded',new Date())})}},1500)})

That gives him a higher probability rating than any of the other presenters currently in the reckoning, at 42.1 per cent. He pips Trisha Goddard, Adil Ray and Richard Madeley to the post, according to the latest odds.

Meanwhile, Leyfield elaborated: "Roman Kemp is 6/4 to be the next guest TV presenter through GMB's revolving door, while former Countdown co-host Carol Vorderman - who is outspoken about politics on social media - is a 2/1 chance, and ex-This Morning presenter Holly Willoughby is 4/1 to guest host the show.

"Rylan Clark has recently been guest hosting the ITV brunchtime show, and the star - who also has a big interest in current affairs - is just 5/2 for a go at GMB for one day."

Fans could also expect the return of Phillip Schofield.

"There have been rumblings that [he] could make an ITV return on this year's I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!, and while at 20/1 it looks unlikely he will make his TV comeback in the GMB guest hot seat, stranger things have happened in the world of daytime TV," Leyfield teased.

Meanwhile, Ed Balls proved almost as controversial as Piers recently when he interviewed his own wife, Home Secretary Yvette Cooper, in the GMB studio.

Fans argued it would be impossible for him to be "impartial" during the conversation, which was co-hosted with Kate Garraway.

However, the 15,000+ Ofcom complaints he received do not appear to have hit his chances of success, with Leyfield insisting that "following the controversy, he is a 9/2 chance on to become the programme's next permanent presenter".

Meanwhile, the presenter with the highest odds behind Piers is Trisha Goddard.

She recently made the sad announcement that her breast cancer is terminal, but the veteran TV star is determined to live life to the fullest and recently made a comeback with a guest slot on GMB.

Leyfield divulged: "GMB newcomer Trisha Goddard was on the right side of it this month when she was widely praised during her guest host stint. She is now 2/1 second favourite, behind Piers, to become a permanent fixture on the show, while Adil Ray (5/2) and Robert Rinder (3/1) could also be in the conversation."
