ITV Coronation Street viewers vow 'not to watch again' as they issue same demand to bosses

Coronation Street: Joel opens a package to reveal box of pills

Coronation Street viewers have been left issuing the same demand to soap bosses.

This week, the character of Joel Deering (played by Calum Lill) was finally unmasked as the villain behind the disappearance of Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton). Initially introduced as a seemingly nice guy, Joel has since revealed his true nature as a manipulative and abusive individual.

He manipulated Lauren into a sexual relationship after initially helping her with bills, and then brutally attacked her in a heated argument, leaving her for dead.

Furthermore, he is the father of her newborn child and recently attempted to murder her by drugging her in a bid to kill the baby. However, his plan failed when she went into labour prematurely and the baby survived.

Despite believing he had evaded justice, the truth about his crimes came to light this week. His fiancee Dee-Dee Bailey (Channique Sterling-Brown) discovered that Joel was the one who attacked Lauren, realising his true nature as an abuser and groomer.

As Lauren confessed the truth to Dee-Dee, Joel overheard their conversation and rushed to the police first, spinning a web of lies about Lauren.

He admitted to having a sexual relationship with the teenager but then falsely claimed that Lauren had obtained illegal abortion pills to terminate the pregnancy, reports the Manchester Evening News.

In a gripping confrontation at the station, Joel found himself in handcuffs while Lauren was escorted by DS Swain (Vicky Myers) for further questioning.

However, soap enthusiasts have since issued a strong plea to the showrunners, demanding that Joel faces the full force of the law and ends up behind bars for his misdeeds.

A fervent viewer took to social media, exclaiming: "If Joel talks his way out of this, I'll never watch #Corrie again."

Another added their voice, stating: "I can't deal with any injustice before justice prevails. It's taking me back to Kirsty with Tyrone and that was too stressful. Take Joel down now!"

A third chimed in with anticipation: "Can we fast forward to the episode where Joel goes to prison."

Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX
