Freddie Flintoff is making his TV comeback during the second series of his series Field of Dreams. The cult England cricketer and TV presenter is taking a team of amateur cricket players from his hometown of Preston on a once-in-a-lifetime cricket tour of India.

During filming for the second series, the 46-year-old was involved in a horrific crash while filming for Top Gear, which left him with anxiety, nightmares and flashbacks. It was a crash that saw him reach a £9 million financial settlement with BBC Studios to compensate Flintoff for the injuries he sustained.

Outside of TV, many will remember Flintoff for being among the heroes who won the Ashes in 2005 against Australia and being one of the best all-rounders in ODI and Test cricket.

But how did Freddie Flintoff get his famous nickname?

Andrew Flintoff got his nickname thanks to his school days. Growing up in Lancashire, he acquired the nickname "Freddie" due to his surname being similar to cartoon character Fred Flintstone of The Flintstones.

From that moment onwards, his new alias was born. Freddie Flintoff is what he is commonly referred to in his appearances of Fields of Dreams, Top Gear and A League Of Their Own.

He later passed nine GCSEs at City of Preston High School and left school aged 16. As a boy, he played cricket for the Lancashire Schools under-11s and under-15s teams.

He then played for two and a half years in the England under-19 cricket team. He went on to play for Lancashire and England and later became England captain.

The second series of his documentary, Freddie Flintoff's Field of Dreams, first aired on BBC One on Tuesday, August 13.

That show was filmed either side of Flintoff's accident and is expected to include him publicly addressing the effect of what happened for the first time.

"Genuinely should not be here after what happened," he said in the clip. "This is going to be a long road back and I have only just started and I am struggling already.

"Got to look at the positive side, I'm still here, I've got another chance. I've got a go at it... a second go."

Footage filmed seven months after the accident showed Flintoff contemplating whether he could travel to India as part of the series. He thankfully made the trip and coached his side in India.
