One Foot in the Grave icon Richard Wilson looks very different 24 years after the iconic finale of the BBC series.

He was last seen on screens on ITV show Saturday Night Takeaway last year, with Ant and Dec making a major announcement about him returning to showbiz.

On the show, Richard was seen wearing a smoking jacket and glasses, looking a far cry from his famous Victor Meldrew character.

He played the head of ITV in Ant and Dec's mini-drama Murder At Bigwig Manor, which aired in clips during the 2023 series of the beloved ITV gameshow series.

One Foot in the Grave showed Wilson as the cantankerous retiree Meldrew, and attracted massive viewership in the 1990s and became a cultural mainstay.

The BBC programme, which spanned six series, chronicled Meldrew's encounters with an unending string of calamities and misadventures. The series catapulted Wilson to fame, along with his co-stars, including Angus Deayton, Annette Crosbie and Doreen Mantle.

Channel 5's documentary, One Foot in the Grave: 30 Years of Laughs, includes interviews with the show's stars - such as Richard Wilson, Doreen Mantle and Angus Deayton - and input from celebrity admirers. But what precisely transpired with Victor Meldrew?

Victor Meldrew met his end at the hands of a hit-and-run driver in the final episode of BBC sitcom One Foot in the Grave, which was broadcast in November 2000. The concluding episode of the series was largely relayed through flashbacks, set five months post Meldrew's demise.

Meldrew's widow, Margaret, joins a church group tasked with clearing rubbish from roadsides. She encounters Glynis Holloway, who also joined the group following her husband's recent passing; it emerges that Glynis was the one who fatally struck Victor without stopping.

In a shocking twist, Margaret discovers that Glynis is the one who killed her husband. She offers Glynis orange juice and paracetamol for her migraine, secretly slipping some tablets into the drink.

As Glynis confesses to the hit-and-run, viewers are left in suspense about her fate as she drives away.

Channel 5's One Foot in the Grave: 30 Years of Laughs can also be viewed on catch-up via My5.
