Western Hydrodynamic Research and SSZ Collaborate on First Streetwear Collection

Western Hydrodynamic Research (WHR) and SSZ are set to launch their first collaborative collection, blending California surf culture with Japanese streetwear aesthetics. The partnership brings together WHR, a Newport Beach-based brand founded by surfer Pat Towersey, and SSZ, created by surf and skate buyer, Tadayuki Kato.

The collection showcases a minimalist yet functional design approach, reflecting the laid-back spirit of surf culture. Featuring two T-shirts adorned with both brands' logos, the pieces are available in crisp navy and white colorways. Embodying the casual comfort style, the line also includes shorts in navy and grey Completing the range are navy caps sporting straight brim and embroidered logos that add a touch of urban flair to the surf-inspired aesthetic.

Notably, SSZ has taken a departure from their previous collaborations by incorporating a graffiti-style font into this collection. This bold, street-inspired typography imbues an edgy urban twist to the designs, contrasting their past partnerships' subdued aesthetics. What also sets this collaboration apart is the opportunity for customization. At the release event, customers can personalize their purchases with custom badges, eyelets and bungee cords – a nod to WHR's iconic DIY spirit creating truly one-of-a-kind items.

The WHR x SSZ collection will debut at the aforementioned event on August 23 at Beams Harajuku, with prices ranging from ¥12,100 to ¥22,000 JPY (approximately $82 to $150 USD).
