Concrete, false ceiling falls down at Eastern Hospital

Health officials say safety inspections have been ordered at Eastern Hospital after two pieces of concrete and part of a false ceiling came down in one of its wards. Nobody was injured in the incident in the integrated medical and geriatric male ward at around 8.15pm on Monday. Officials said the pieces of concrete were 20 centimetres long, 30 centimetres wide and three centimetres thick. The ceiling was repaired and the ward is operating as usual, they said. "The hospital is very concerned about the incident and has arranged safety inspections to the facilities in the ward again immediately. The hospital is investigating the cause of concrete spalling," a spokesperson said in a statement. "The hospital has regular inspection of hospital facilities and the last inspection at this area was in April last year."
