Black Myth: Wukong - How To Get All Spells

Combat in Black Myth: Wukong primarily focuses on rapid melee combos and swift dodges. However, there are a plethora of magical abilities at your disposal. These can be used to hamper enemies or deal devastating damage. Here's our guide on how to get all spells in Black Myth: Wukong. Likewise, please be reminded that this article contains spoilers.

How to get all spells in Black Myth: Wukong

There are several spells in Black Myth: Wukong, and these are unlocked as you progress through the campaign. We've organized our guide based on the order that we obtained these. Likewise, we've included tips regarding the best perks that you can allocate skill points into.

In any case, here are some notable tidbits:

Mana is the resource that's required to cast spells. If you're unable to recover mana through various means, then you have no choice but to rest at a shrine to replenish the resource.Spells can be equipped by interacting with shrines and selecting the Self-Advance - Set Spells option. Each spell has its own skill tree with unlockable perks. These are found in the Self-Advance - Reignite the Sparks menu.Spells belong to four categories: Mysticism, Alteration, Strand, and Transformations. We discuss your character's shapeshifting abilities in two separate guides: Transformations guide - You turn into powerful creatures with their own health bars, might resource, and unique abilities.Spirits guide - You turn into certain enemies that you've defeated to cast their spell or skill.

Immobilize
Type: MysticismHow to unlock: Obtained early in Chapter 1 when you face the Bullguard. The hermit appears in a cutscene, granting you this particular magical ability.Notable perks: Everything

Immobilize will become your go-to spell in Black Myth: Wukong due to its function. It stops an enemy in its tracks, allowing you to deal as much damage before the effect breaks. Some of its perks, such as Evanescence and Time Bargain, even help increase the effect's duration.

Note that completing chapters nets you powerful rewards called Relics. The one from Chapter 4, Envious Tongue, has a perk called Spread the Word, which causes Immobilize to affect all enemies around your initial target.

Cloud Step
Type: AlterationHow to unlock: During Chapter 1, you'll face a boss named the Black Wind King. Defeating him nets you this spell.Notable perks: None

Cloud Step is a nifty ability, since it allows you to create a mist decoy while being able to move around. This opens up new possibilities, such as avoiding damage entirely or striking a shielded foe from behind. The problem is that it's an Alteration-type spell, which occupies the same keybind as Rock Solid, which we discuss further below.

A Pluck of Many
Type: StrandHow to unlock: In Chapter 2, there's a part where you slide down sand dunes to reach the Windseal Gate shrine. The headless minstrel NPC awaits you there, and he grants you this ability.Notable perks: Everything

Similar to Immobilize, A Pluck of Many can be considered as one of the best spells in Black Myth: Wukong. When activated, it creates multiple duplicates of your character that attack nearby hostiles. With numerical superiority, you can easily overpower most opponents.

The idea is to unlock all the available perks, which improve the health and duration of duplicates--the last node, Volition, even lets your mirror images cast their own spells. Once your copies are on the field, just cast Immobilize and have your entire squad go to town on a boss.

Note that the biggest issue with this spell is that the casting animation takes a couple of seconds. If you get interrupted, the ability will go into cooldown and you'll have to wait for two minutes just to be able to reuse it.

Rock Solid
Type: AlterationHow to unlock: Obtained automatically once you defeat the Tiger Vanguard boss in Chapter 2.Notable perks: Rapid Return, Rock Mastery, Iron Clad, and Upper Hand.

Rock Solid is the game's parry mechanic or, rather, it's the most basic and straightforward means of parrying an enemy's attack. Simply cast the spell as a blow is about to land, and watch as a flashing effect occurs that staggers your opponent. It can be a lifesaver in most situations, especially since you can negate the damage from most attacks.

Ring of Fire
Type: MysticismHow to unlock: Throughout Chapter 3, you'll battle the Macaque Chief several times. The second encounter takes place in the Warding Temple in front of the hermit. Once the Macaque Chief has been driven away, the hermit will teach you this spell.Notable perks: None

Ring of Fire is a Black Myth: Wukong spell with the same problems as Cloud Step--it's in a category of spells overshadowed by their counterparts. In this case, it's Immobilize, your bread-and-butter ability for most of the campaign. At best, casting this power lets you create a defensive circle around your character. Even though you can gain a few boons while within its radius, you can still get pushed out by stronger enemy blows, which is why you're better off just stopping foes in their tracks so you can stay on the offensive.

Somersault Cloud
Type: N/AHow to unlock: Acquired after defeating the Supreme Inspector in Chapter 6.Notable perks: N/A

Remember Goku flying around while sitting on a floating cloud? Well, you can certainly do that in a game based on the novel that inspired Dragon Ball Z in the first place.

Somersault Cloud is more of an activated power or mount than a spell that you cast in combat. It only works in the Chapter 6 region, Mount Huaguo, but it's downright fun. It lets you freely explore the map--just watch out for invisible walls--to reach various bosses and points-of-interest.

That does it for our Black Myth: Wukong spells guide. We'll let you know if we discover other magical abilities in the game. For now, we advise you to take a look at our combat-related guides regarding spirits, transformations, relics, and vessels.
