Man arrested for alleged drug trafficking, production

A 22-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of trafficking and manufacturing dangerous drugs. The man, who claimed to be jobless, was detained as part of a police raid at an industrial unit in Tsuen Wan on Friday. Briefing the press on Sunday, senior inspector Chan Yu-wing from the Narcotics Bureau believed the suspect received instructions remotely from a syndicate on how to manufacture drugs. Officers have also confiscated 2kg of suspected ketamine, and 6kg of raw materials, with a total street value of $960,000. "We also discovered a large quantity of corrosive substances. In fact, during storage or heating, these chemicals could easily catch fire or explode," Chan warned. "Therefore, these drug syndicates are completely neglecting public safety. Their actions are extremely irresponsible. If members of the public or security guards in a building smell something suspicious coming from a unit, like a pungent chemical smell, they should contact the police immediately." The suspect will appear before the West Kowloon Magistracy on Monday.
