Premier League take step in right direction with VAR fix but it's unfair on stadium fans

Finally we're going to get more clarity when it comes to VAR. But it's unfair to keep paying fans inside the stadium in the dark.

The Premier League has announced a new social media account on X that promises live refereeing and VAR clarifications from around the grounds.

They will have a hotline to the VAR Hub in Stockley Park and will be explaining decisions in real-time.

It is a great step in the right direction and it's no surprise that the Premier League Match Centre account (@PLMatch Centre) has almost 200,000 followers.

function loadOvpScript(){let el=document.createElement('script');el.setAttribute('src','https://live.primis.tech/live/liveView.php?s=114291&vp_content=plembed3e7arguyxmsj&cbuster=%%CACHEBUSTER%%&playerApiId=v114291');document.getElementById('ovp-primis').appendChild(el)} window.top.addEventListener('primisPlayerInit',e=>{try{if(e.detail&&e.detail.playerApiId==="v114291"){if(window.document.getElementsByClassName('jwplayer')[0]){e.detail.float('disable')}}}catch(e){}});window.addEventListener('DOMContentLoaded',()=>{setTimeout(()=>{if(typeof flagTcfLoaded!=='undefined'&&flagTcfLoaded===!0){loadOvpScript() ExpressApp.Log('[Load] OVP flagTcfLoaded',new Date())}else{document.addEventListener("tcfLoaded",()=>{loadOvpScript() ExpressApp.Log('[Load] OVP tcfLoaded',new Date())})}},1500)}) Related articles Five Premier League stars targeted by match-fixers with lucrative offer on table Pep Guardiola 'feared he was going to be sacked by Man City' admits former aide

Howard Webb has made a really positive impact since heading up the PGMOL and frequently appeared on TV last season to explain controversial decisions. He is keen to open up more communication channels.

But we can't forget about those supporters inside the ground.

It is claimed fans will be given more comprehensive updates on the big screens.

Mic'ing up the refs is surely the easiest way but that notion has been rejected by Premier League managers during a private meeting. Refs aren't keen on it either.

The main issue with VAR is killing the excitement of goals and leaving fans wondering what the heck is happening miles away.

Surely the most suitable solution is for officials to explain their decisions over the tannoy.

Or maybe give football fans access to a miniature radio so they can hear the referee communicating all match, just like they do in rugby.

Toney trouble

IVAN Toney will be throwing his career away if he moves to Saudi Arabia.

The Brentford forward only needs a strong first half of the season and he'll have a queue of top clubs lining up for his signature once again in January.

But if the 28-year-old opts for the Saudi riches he will wave goodbye to creating a big legacy - and his England career.
