READ MORE:Â Ed Sheeran â âAutumn Variationsâ review: a pumpkin-spiced snoozerThe singer-songwriter, who has been a lifelong fan of the football club, has purchased a minority stake amounting 1.4 per cent according to the Ipswich Town football club in a statement. Sheeran has been the front of shirt sponsor for the Menâs and Womenâs teams since 2021.
According to the Ipswich Town football club’s statement, Sheeran’s stake in the club is a “passive and minority investment”, and will not result in the musician joining the board or becoming a voting shareholder.
As of now, Sheeran’s only perk that comes with the minority stake purchase is the “long-term use of an executive box at Portman Road stadium, which he has personalised ahead of the 2024/25 season”.
Sheeran said in the statement: âI am really excited to have bought a small percentage of my hometown football club.â¯Itâs any football fanâs dream to be an owner of the club they support, and I feel so grateful for this opportunity.â
âI have lived in Suffolk since I was three years old and, while I travel the world and sometimes feel like an outsider in big cities, Suffolk and Ipswich have always made me feel part of the community and protected,â he continued.
âItâs such a joy to be a fan of Ipswich Town. There are ups and downs but football is all about taking the highs and the lows. Iâm not a voting shareholder or a board member, this is just me putting some money into the club I love and them returning the gesture, so please donât get onto me with signing suggestions or tactics to play!⯠Iâm excited for the Premier League to start this weekend. Letâs go!â
In other Ed Sheeran news, it was announced last month that he has written and recorded a new song, âUnder The Treeâ, for an upcoming Christmas movie directed by Simon Otto and written and produced by Richard Curtis.
