Arsenal transfer target spotted in new home shirt sparking social media frenzy

Arsenal transfer target Jeremie Frimpong has been spotted wearing the Gunners' new home shirt, sparking a social media frenzy from fans.

Frimpong caught the eye with Bayer Leverkusen last season, as his performances helped the German outfit to their first-ever Bundesliga title.

With nine goals and seven assists to his name throughout the 2023/24 campaign, rumours about a transfer to one of Europe's elites had started to gather pace.

One of the clubs believed to be interested were Arsenal, after reports about a £34million release clause began to surface.

So far he's stayed put, but a recent social media post showing Frimpong wearing the brand-new Arsenal home shirt has fuelled speculation once again.

Shared to social media by Instagram user Tamira Blankson (@tamirablankson), the clip shows Frimpong sat in the drivers seat of a car, donning the red and white Adidas jersey.

So, has the Leverkusen defender just accidentally leaked his upcoming transfer to Arsenal? Well, it would appear not.

As pointed out by one X user, Frimpong was part of the Leverkusen side that recently played Arsenal in a pre-season friendly, with it being most likely he picked up the shirt while in London.

Posting on the social media site, @m1nuyln suggested: "Probably got it from the friendly but it’s funny he chose to wear it out."

But, that didn't stop Arsenal fans from hypothesising about a potential transfer, with @afckush adding: "Suits him well."

While @AbzinoAFC said: "Man played us once and became a fan."

@zacbondo commented: "I've seen enough do what you need to do Edu."

And @stoletheguap claimed: "Whole time Frimpong was the winger depth," a nod to the Dutch international's impressive versatility out wide.

But not everyone was happy to see Frimpong wearing the Arsenal shirt, given he'd previously made comments mocking the north London outfit.

During Leverkusen's title celebrations last season, Frimpong was caught on camera saying: "Granit [Xhaka], you came from Arsenal and you’ve won it here! My mate!"

It was a reference to Arsenal unsuccessful title challenge during the 2022/23 campaign, which then Gunners midfielder Xhaka played a part in.

On the back of seeing Frimpong now wear their club's beloved kit, @FionaOtien14290 replied: "Seeing him wear it makes me mad like isn't he the same person who was mocking Arsenal during their title celebrations last season? Take that shirt off Jeremie!"

While @illuminaukhtea wrote: "After what he said to Granit Xhaka when they celebrated their league win? One day at the Emirates can change you I guess."
