Man charged with attempted murder of police officer after prison stabbing

A man has been charged with attempted murder of a police officer who was stabbed inside a high-security prison.

David Taylor, 62, has been charged and remanded in custody following the incident that happened at Frankland Prison, County Durham, last month on July 23.

The police officer, a detective constable with Greater Manchester Police, suffered a single stab wound to the chest.

He was taken to hospital following the stabbing and has since been discharged and is recovering at home.

Taylor will appear at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, September 3.
