Lamine Yamal's father stabbed and rushed to hospital in 'serious' condition

The father of Barcelona footballer Lamine Yamal has been rushed to hospital in a serious condition after he was stabbed following an incident in Spain.

Mounir Nasraoui was stabbed on Wednesday evening in a car park in the Spanish town of Mataro, which is situated north of Barcelona.

The 32-year-old was rushed to Can Ruti hospital in Badalona and his condition is said to be 'serious', according to Spanish newspaper La Vanguardia.

A fight reportedly broke out in the parking lot, which led to Nasraoui being stabbed 'multiple times'. It is not yet known what motivated the perpetrator(s) to carry out the attack.

The Mossos d'Esquadra investigation unit in Mataro have begun their investigation into the incident and are working in collaboration with municipal police.

Several witnesses are believed to watched the incident unfold and they have been located to determine the timeline of events.

Yamal has been training with Barcelona preparing for their opening match of the new La Liga season on Saturday. He made his first appearance in pre-season in the Gamper Trophy as a substitute.

Hansi Flick’s side take on Valencia at the Mestalla, meaning the teenager would have been away from his home in Barcelona. However, it remains to be seen whether the young attacker will be available for the game following the attack on his father.

Neither Lamine Yamal nor Barcelona have publicly commented on the attack.

Nasraoui is of Moroccan descent and migrated to Spain. In 2023, his son was given the chance to represent Morocco or Spain, and the youngster chose the country of his birth.

Soon after, he became a revelation at the Camp Nou, starting games regularly under Xavi Hernandez and scoring seven goals in 50 appearances.

Yamal made his debut for the Spain national team at the age of 16, making him their youngest-ever appearance maker and goalscorer. He has won 14 caps for La Roja, scoring three goals.

Nasraoui travelled to Berlin to watch his son represent Spain in the final only last month, and posed for pictures on the field at Olympiastadion.
