Girl, 13, admits unlawful violence during riot outside migrant hotel

A 13-year-old girl has become the latest youngster to be convicted for her part in the widespread riots sparked by the Southport stabbings.

‘I think he likes the excitement. He’s seen a lot of violence in his life, sadly. His dad is serving a long prison sentence. His mother can’t control him.

‘It’s incredibly sad. He’s a lovely little boy when on his own. You’d think he’d actually listen to what you try to tell him but it goes in one ear and out the other.’

England pleaded guilty at Nottingham Crown Court to using threatening, abusive or insulting words to stir up racial hatred.

His posts also included offensive references to the Grenfell Tower disaster and Islam.

Detective Chief Inspector Nick Hall said: ‘England’s remarks were not a dark attempt at humour, nor were they a one-off aberration.

Sentencing for a man who looted cosmetics chain Lush during riots in Hull has been adjourned after claims he asked a prison probation officer ‘if he wanted his autograph’.

John Honey helped attack a car with three Romanian men in, targeted a garage leaving nine vehicles damaged and pushed bins at police lines during the disorder on August 3.

The 25-year-old ‘played a prominent role’ in the 12 hours of violence and unrest that gripped the city, prosecutors said.

Honey pleaded guilty to violent disorder and three charges of burglary at Lush, the O2 store and Shoezone.

He also admitted racially aggravated criminal damage of a BMW, and to damaging nine other cars during an attack on a garage.

Judge John Thackray KC, the Recorder of Hull, said he had received a letter from a member of staff at HMP Hull who claimed they were conducting an assessment with Honey and that he had asked ‘if I wanted his autograph as he is famous and is all over social media’.

They said he was an ‘over-confident individual’ who ‘presented with no remorse’.

The case was adjourned until Friday for further statements to be taken.

The city’s magistrates’ court heard yesterday how Cann was ‘seen to be on a bike’ in police footage taken on Royal Parade.

Claire Tresidder, prosecuting, said the ‘bike’ was actually a form of mobility scooter as Cann has a prosthetic lower right leg which is emblazoned with a St George’s Cross pattern.

Cann, who appeared in the dock flanked by two security officers replied ‘Oh yeah, I’m guilty’ before putting his hands up in the air when asked to offer a plea to the charge of violent disorder.

Ms Tresidder said Cann was seen to pick up items from the floor and throw them in the direction of the counter-protestors.

Other police footage showed Cann throwing a firework which landed on the counter-protestors’ side and run from where it landed.

The court was told that Cann had previous convictions, the most recent being possession of an offensive weapon in 2019.

District Judge Stuart Smith said Cann had accepted his role in the ‘very significant’ disorder, adding ‘violent thuggery is not going to be tolerated’.

Footage was shown in court, filmed from inside the hotel, of Jarvis throwing wooden planks at the building, wearing a hoodie and a mask.

When the Recorder of Sheffield, Judge Jeremy Richardson KC, asked ‘what possessed him to turn up’, Dale Harris, defending, said: ‘Probably stupidity.’

The court heard how Jarvis told police after his arrest that he went to the hotel because it was ‘just another opportunity to vote, to sort out the hotel, to sort out the people staying within it’.

Unemployed Jarvis, of no fixed abode, but originally from Barnsley, admitted violent disorder last week.

‘Large-scale public unrest is never acceptable and the Crown Prosecution Service will not hesitate to respond swiftly and robustly to uphold law and order.

A judge has hit out at an accused rioter who missed his court appearance after flying out to Dubai on holiday.

Perrie Fisher, 28, was due to appear in court after being charged with violent disorder on Friday.

However, he jetted off to the Middle East on Sunday for seven nights on a ‘pre-booked’ holiday, Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court heard today.

District Judge Tim Pattinson issued a warrant without bail upon his return to the UK.

Fisher is said to have been involved in violent disorder that broke out during a protest at a hotel housing asylum seekers in Aldershot on July 31.

The judge said: ‘To say these are serious matters is an understatement. They have attracted national attention at the very highest level. My view is it’s not acceptable for [Fisher] to fail to attend court.’

He therefore issued a warrant without bail for when Fisher lands on UK tarmac on Sunday.

She showed politeness, not just 'thank you', but always 'thank you' with a reason attached.

‘Number three, to have interest in others, genuine interest and being inquisitive. Alice asked lots of questions and she remembered things about you.

‘She remembered the names of your children, she remembered where you went on holiday, so you had to be very careful about what you told Alice.

‘Number four, equality, I love this one. This has to be my favourite, how a child at such a young age could not favour one other friend over another. Friends, she played equally with them all. That is so hard to do, and she mastered it.

‘(Number five), enthusiasm for life. Alice wanted to do everything there was on offer and she seized those opportunities and you (her parents) provided them for Alice.

‘But along with those opportunities is number six. She did support and guide. So if she felt things weren't up to her standard she would tell you, and she would then help you put it right.

‘Finally, the number seven is family. Along with two other beautiful souls, Elsie and Alice, she was taken from us in an unimaginable act of violence that has left our hearts broken beyond repair. Our beloved Bebe, only six years old, was full of joy, light, and love, and she will always remain in our hearts as the sweet, kind, and spirited girl we adore.

'The outpouring of love and support from our community and beyond has been a source of incredible comfort during this unimaginably difficult time. From the pink lights illuminating Sefton and Liverpool, to the pink bows, flowers, balloons, cards, and candles left in her memory, we have been overwhelmed by the kindness and compassion shown to our family. The response from Southport, the whole of Liverpool, and even further afield has deeply touched our hearts, and we are so grateful to everyone who has reached out to us.

'We want to acknowledge our older daughter, Genie, who witnessed the attack and managed to escape. She has shown such incredible strength and courage, and we are so proud of her. Her resilience is a testament to the love and bond she shared with her little sister, and we will continue to support her as we navigate this painful journey together as a family.

'Our thoughts are also with everyone else involved in this tragedy and all those who were injured. We hope that they find strength and healing in the days ahead. To the children who witnessed this terrible event, we send our love and hope that they too can begin to heal, surrounded by the care and support of those who love them.

'To the emergency services, who acted with such care and professionalism on that terrible day: thank you. Your support has continued as you have looked after our family with compassion and dedication, and we will forever be grateful for the way you have helped us through this harrowing time.

'To our community, friends, and strangers who have shown us such love: thank you. Your messages, your tributes, and your presence have meant the world to us and have helped us find some solace in our grief. We are also thinking of Elsie and Alice’s families, who are sharing in this unimaginable loss, and we hold them close in our hearts.

'Our hearts are broken, but we find some comfort in knowing that Bebe was so deeply loved by all who knew her.
