The Mallorca Files’ Elen Rhys and Julian Looman have teased the return of a new guest star if the Amazon Prime Video series continues with a fourth season.

The light-hearted crime drama finally returns today (August 8) after finding a new home on the streaming platform three years after its second run on BBC One.

In episode five of the new season, Max and Miranda are on the trail of a dangerous escapee but are forced to team up with mainland detective Mancuso (played by David Mora) to track him down.

Although the slick Barcelona cop’s attitude gets on the nerves of our main duo, Miranda reluctantly finds herself warming up to him.

He appears for another case later on in the season, infuriating Max who may harbour secret feelings for his Welsh partner. However, he’s still in a complicated situation with his current girlfriend Carmen (Tábata Cerezo).

Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, Elen explained: “He’s a bit of an obstacle really, because Carmen’s left at the beginning of the series so it opens up that will-they-won’t-they. So he comes in as a possible love interest.”

Mancuso could later become a more permanent love interest for Miranda despite getting off on the wrong foot, complicating things for the duo, whom many fans are convinced will eventually get together.

“[He] initially gets under Miranda’s skin, really puts his nose out,” the actress continued.

“He comes from the mainland, the big serious detective who gets the good cases and ridicules us a little bit.

“It was certainly fun to play from Miranda’s point of view, hating him but fancying him a little bit. And it also opened up a new dynamic.

“Max had never seen Miranda with a partner or love interest, so there are feelings of confusion and jealousy.”

Although Max wasn’t happy to be saddled with a flashy new partner, actor Julian was more than happy to have him on board.

“It was a little bit of male energy into it as well, which was nice,” he added.

When asked if Mancuso could return, the German star offered: “Let’s see, you never know!”

Elen then quipped: “You had a bit of a man crush on him!” to which Julian agreed, “A bit of a man crush.”

The Mallorca Files season 3 is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
