BBC Strictly star admits show is 'running out of pro dancers' as future in jeopardy

Strictly: Fiona Phillips and Brendan Cole clash in 2005 rehearsals

Former Strictly Come Dancing star Brendan Cole claims the BBC show is "running out of pro dancers" as he breaks his silence on the recent scandal.

The 48-year-old dancer shared his honest opinion after Giovanni Pernice and Graziano Di Prima were let go following allegations of abuse while also revealing whether he'll ever make a comeback.

Brendan himself hasn't been immune to controversy, as an old interview surfaced where he called his former dance partner Sarah Manners a "b****" back in 2004. In a recent chat with Metro, Brendan stated: "It's the pro's job to get the celebrities through it.

"I've had a few rough ones; I didn't particularly like them, they didn't like me, but you push through. At the same time l've had fantastic partners who I've loved working with. You take the good and the bad and hopefully come out unscathed."

When asked if he would consider returning to the show, especially with Aljaz Skorjanec, 34, making a comeback, Brendan responded: "They're running out of pros, I might get the call-up! If they come with the right number, I'll consider it! No, that's a joke - I wouldn't do that."

Brendan was dropped from Strictly in 2018. At the time, the professional dancer admitted he was "in shock".

He said: "I'm a little bit in shock at the moment.I'm quite emotional and a bit raw about it. I am very disappointed. It's an editorial decision. I will never know the ins and outs.

"I have had 15 incredible series on the show, I'm very proud of the whole show, they're a great team."

The news comes after the BBC announced last month that Aljaz will be returning to the dance floor following a two-year hiatus.

Speaking about his return, Aljaz said: "I could not be more ecstatic to be back with the Strictly family! This year is such a special one for this legendary show.

The news that Aljaz would be dancing once again on the show comes as his wife Janette Manrara stepped down from the programme in order to take up a hosting role on spin-off show It Takes Two.

Sarah James, Executive Producer of Strictly Come Dancing, expressed her excitement about Aljaz's comeback for the 20th anniversary edition, saying: "We are all so thrilled that Aljaz is back in the Strictly Ballroom, bringing his incredible choreography and passion for dance."
