Lo Wai-fung falls to Uzbekistan's reigning champion

Hong Kong’s Lo Wai-fung was unable to beat the reigning Olympic champion Ulugbek Rashitov of Uzbekistan in the men’s Taekwondo -68kg category at the Paris Olympic Games on Thursday, but the SAR athlete may still have a chance for repechage. Top-seeded Rashitov started off strong, beating Lo 12-0 in the first round with a series of kicks and punches. The Uzbek continued his lead into the second round, and while the 17th seeded SAR athlete was able to earn two points for a body kick, Rashitov ultimately came out victorious with a 9-2 win to reach the quarterfinals. However, this may not be the end to Lo’s Olympic journey as rules indicate that anyone who has lost to a finalist in the single elimination competition enters the repechage, meaning if Rashitov ends up being a finalist, Lo has a chance at bronze in a repechage.
