GMB viewers 'switch off' and plead for 'boring' host to be replaced after Ofcom complaints

GMB: Zarah Sultana clashes with Ed Balls

Good Morning Britain viewers were up in arms on Thursday, with a barrage of them turning off their TVs and demanding Ed Balls be ousted from the show.

The fresh wave of discontent follows a storm of 8,200 Ofcom complaints after Ed's fiery exchange with Labour MP Zarah Sultana on Monday's programme.

Disgruntled fans took to social media to vent their ire, with one viewer blasting: "This must be the worst pairing possible on the desk. She screams and interrupts he is totally out of his depth please please replace."

Another viewer lamented: "Why these two again? Boring, boring, boring," while a third queried: "Why is Ed Balls still on GMB? ".

A fourth chimed in, saying: "You are so predictable and boring get shot of Ed," reports the Mirror.

One tweet read: "I have to switch off. The glee oozing from Balls' while talking about limiting free speech and people being arrested and charged is sickening."

Echoing the sentiment, another fan posted: "Me too, can't watch this anymore."

Further criticism came with a viewer asking: "Watching #GMB where Kate Garraway and Ed Balls desperately try to pretend they haven't been part of the problem. How many days ago did you ridicule #ZaraSultana?"

One irate fan didn't hold back: "#GMB have you sacked Kate Garraway and Ed no balls yet? #boycottGMB if they don't go."

In the interview that triggered thousands of Ofcom complaints, Kate said to the MP: "We have to ask you questions as well," which was followed by Ed's interjection: "And if you want to, you can answer them, it's your call."

The interview on GMB grew tense when Labour MP Zarah Sultana and presenter Ed clashed, with the MP asserting: "I'm going to wait for Kate to finish her question if that's alright," to which Ed replied, "If you want to answer the questions, you can but you don't have to."

Later in the show, Kate probed Zarah about her choice of words: "Why is it important for you to use that specific word 'Islamophobic'? It's been called racist, it's been called thuggery," prompting an interruption from Ed who added: "They definitely said racist over the weekend."

Zarah mentioned mosques being particularly targeted recently, which led to another interruption from Ed who pointed out: "But Starmer has condemned that."

To this, the undeterred MP shot back: "I'm just finishing the question if that's okay."

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
