Outlander's Sam Heughan 'almost run over' as he shares huge announcement

Sam Heughan reveals the souvenir he'll take from Outlander set

Outlander star Sam Heughan admitted he “nearly got run over” as he took to Instagram with an exciting announcement

The Scottish hunk is best known for portraying Jamie Fraser opposite Caitriona Balfe’s Claire Fraser in the hit historical fantasy Starz drama.

He’s set to return to screens later this year for the second half of season seven, but not before the show hits a huge milestone.

“Well, if you didn’t know it, this Friday is a big day,” he told his fans in a new video, in which he appeared in costume as Jamie outside one of the show’s locations.

“It is the 10th anniversary of Outlander, can you believe it? 10 years, a decade!

“Well, we couldn’t be here without you guys, the fans, so a huge thank you to all the fans who have supported us over the years.”

The actor continued by revealing Outlander fans will get the chance to meet the iconic cast before the new episodes begin airing this November.

“Now, I am going to celebrate,” he continued. “But I tell you what, I’m going to celebrate with you because I’m going to use this special announcement to announce that we, Outlander, are going to be, on 16th October, at PaleyFest. Celebrating the 10th anniversary.”

Sam made a slight error in his video as he then announced: “And on the 17th we’re going to be there at the Outlander season 2 panel at Comic-Con”, of course meaning the season seven, part two panel.

“Come and join us, come and celebrate with us, the cast,” he added.

“Thank you to everyone who’s supported us over the past 10 years, and I almost got run over there. Hopefully I’ll make it to New York and I’ll see you there.”

Sam was indeed crossing the set in front of a moving car, but fans can rest assured it wasn’t going fast enough to cause him any harm.

He then corrected his error in the video’s caption, writing: “Not season 2, I got distracted by almost being run over…”

Fans of the hit series were absolutely ecstatic at the announcement, with many of them taking to the comments to congratulate Sam and the cast on 10 years on screens.

“10 years! what a journey Sam!” one follower exclaimed. “And what a wonderful Jamie you are!

“I can't believe this journey will soon be over! Happy ten years anniversary Sam and the entire cast of Outlander.”

And another replied: “Thank YOU Sam. Thank you for your portrayal of Jamie Fraser. Thank you for your fan engagement.

“Thank you for being a huge part of everything Outlander. And thank you for creating some superb spirits to get us through Droughtlander and the ending of the series itself! Many, many thanks to you!”

Outlander season 7, part 2 premieres Sunday, November 22 on Starz.
