The First Berserker: Khazan Is A Hack-And-Slash Revival That Pulls No Punches

The First Berserker: Khazan's first gameplay footage is here, and it's looking quite promising. Boasting a cel-shaded anime artstyle and a frosty aesthetic, Khazan looks straight out of the pages of a combat-filled manga like Berserk. How fitting.

The latest entry in the Dungeon & Fighter series--which includes the online fighting game DNF Duel and the MMORPG Dungeon Fighter Online--The First Berserker: Khazan is a hack-and-slash action-RPG with similarities to the Souls series and classics like the original God of War games. The trailer shows a wounded Khazan being fully healed by a strange sword called the "Blade Phantom." After that, he explores a snowy mountainscape, using his axe and sword to deal with a number of enemies, finally ending with an impressive boss fight with a Yeti-like monster.

While it's not clear if Khazan is fully a "Soulslike," it exhibits a lot of elements that have become synonymous with the series, including maze-like environments, powerful falling attacks, charge attacks, a sprint option, and even a parry. The game's stylized visuals stand out the most in this trailer, as we haven't seen many notable action-RPGs in that style in recent years. The First Berserker: Khazan will come out sometime in 2025, and it will release for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
