40pc of students get university offers through JUPAS

About 40 percent of students taking part in this year's Joint University Programmes Admissions System (JUPAS) on Wednesday received offers from local universities, a figure that's in line with previous years. Nearly 40,000 students joined the centralised admissions scheme, and more than 15,700 of them were given an offer. The University of Hong Kong said it admitted four of the 10 top scorers in this year's Diploma of Secondary Education (DSE) exam, as well as eight top athletes through the Top Athletes Direct Admission Scheme. Among them is Chloe Pak, who holds the Hong Kong U18 and U20 records in 100m hurdles as well as the Hong Kong record in 4x200m relay. Pak will be studying medicine. "People think that studying and training may not co-exist, but I definitely do not think this is an issue, because it really depends on the person and their attitude," she said. The Chinese University, meanwhile, admitted five top DSE scorers who will all be studying medicine. Another top DSE scorer will pursue a degree in business at the University of Science and Technology.
