Dozens queue to visit new national security gallery

Dozens of people queued up on Wednesday to visit Hong Kong's new National Security Exhibition Gallery before it opened at 10am. Located on the second floor of the Hong Kong Museum of History, the gallery is the city's first thematic exhibition dedicated to promoting national security education. A woman at the front of the queue said that as a Chinese person, she should know more about national security legislation. She expressed concern about the limited sense of national identity among Hong Kong's youth compared with their mainland counterparts, and stressed the need for more education. A child accompanied by his grandmother said he wanted to explore issues beyond what he had learned at school. "I want to learn more about Chinese history and law, which we did not learn much about in school," he said. The 1,100-square-metre gallery is divided into six different zones, including a theatre that shows a short video about modern Chinese history and emphasises the importance of national security. Chief Executive John Lee has called for a wide range of visitors to the gallery.
