Backstage Update on Jacob Fatu Following WWE SummerSlam

As previously reported, there appeared to be some questions surrounding Jacob Fatu and whether he was legitimately injured during his table spot that took place in the main event at last Saturday’s WWE SummerSlam 2024. It was later rumored that Jacob Fatu did plan on selling a leg injury after the table spot, but it’s unknown if it was to be the extent of what was seen on TV. Dave Meltzer reported additional details regarding Jacob Fatu on today’s edition of Wrestling Observer Radio.

According to Meltzer on Jacob Fatu, “Whatever it is, it wasn’t deemed that bad, whatever that means.” Meltzer also confirmed suspicions that the plan was to have Fatu sell the table spot outside to keep him away from the returning Roman Reigns. Meltzer added on Fatu, “I was told he was hurting, but I was also told it wasn’t that bad.” Meltzer also reported that when he asked about Fatu’s leg, he was told, “We’ll see.”

The match’s finish reportedly unfolded as planned, to avoid any interaction between Reigns and Fatu, with Reigns targeting only Sikoa. This allowed Cody Rhodes to retain his title.

Triple H indicated at the post-show press conference for SummerSlam that Fatu was banged up from the match. Fatu was later seen in a medical boot after SummerSlam, but it appears he can walk on the leg that crashed into the table. So, if he did injure his leg, Fatu being able to walk on it the day after the show is likely a good sign.

Fatu is not only a member of The Bloodline, he’s also one-half of the WWE Tag Team Champions along with Tama Tonga. They won the belts from DIY last Friday at WWE SmackDown in Cleveland the night before SummerSlam.
