Haughey returns to Hong Kong after Olympic triumph

SAR star swimmer Siobhan Haughey has returned to Hong Kong after winning two bronze medals at the Paris Olympics. Haughey told reporters at the airport that she needs to recharge her batteries before returning to training. "I'm going to take a break first, and then I'll start training afterwards, because my next competition will be the World Cup in mid-October, so a short break just to process everything that happened and enjoy some down time," Haughey said. Asked what she thinks about being the Hong Kong athlete with the most number of Olympic medals, Haughey said she is honoured to represent the city and bring glory to the SAR. "I enjoyed this Olympics so much and I have done my best in the competition. The process is much more important than the outcome, I have no regrets," she said. Haughey said the atmosphere in Paris was much better than the Covid-era Tokyo 2021 Olympics as there was an audience in the arena this time. "My parents and fans can watch my competitions inside the venue...and there are people from Hong Kong everywhere. It feels like we are celebrating the Olympics together," she said. The swimmer said she has no exact plans on how to spend her HK$3 million prize money, but wishes to do something to thank her team for supporting her. Haughey also called for more resources to be allocated to swimming, to enable more young people to reach higher levels in the sport.
