Ella Purnell, star of Fallout, is set to lead a new dark comedy series debuting this autumn, complete with a tantalising first teaser trailer.

Based on CJ Skuse's acclaimed novel, Sweetpea unveils Ella's character Rhiannon, a woman consistently overlooked in every aspect of her life.

"People don't really see me, not at all actually," she says in voiceover as we see her being ignored to the point of invisibility, even having coats thrown over her at work.

"Lately I've been getting really angry, like, really angry."

The trailer escalates quickly, showing Rhiannon screaming into a mirror, splattered with blood she's reached her breaking point and society should be on alert.

It's reminiscent of M Night Shyamalan's thriller Split, where James McAvoy's character Kevin manifests a terrifying alter ego, with a more lighthearted bent.

The official blurb for Sweetpea teases: "Rhiannon Lewis is bored with her life. People walk past her in the street without even glancing at her.

"She's constantly passed over for promotions at work, her boyfriend doesn't want to commit, and her dad is really, really sick. Then everything changes", reports the Mirror.

"Driven to the edge, Rhiannon snaps. Suddenly empowered with a dangerous new persona, she must navigate the intoxicating rush of control. But can she hide her deadly double life?"

The show will consist of eight episodes (Image: STARZ)

Set for an October release, the show features a stellar supporting cast including Plebs' Jon Pointing, Fresh Meat alum Nicole Lecky, and Ted Lasso's Jeremy Swift.

Ella, who soared to fame with her role as Jackie Taylor in Yellowjackets, now boasts her most significant achievement with this year's hit series on Amazon Prime Video, Fallout.

In an exclusive interview with The Hollywood Reporter, she delved into the evolution of her character Lucy MacLean in the forthcoming second season: "Her entire world has just been ripped apart and ripped at the seams.

"It crumbled in front of her in a second. She's always had such strong core beliefs, but they were rooted in her dad.

"So, when you take away that base foundation, I just don't know how she'll fare, I just don't know."

Sweetpea premieres on STARZ for US viewers this October and Sky Atlantic/NOW TV in the UK.
