New rules simplify medicine exports to Guangdong

The Guangdong Provincial People’s Congress has introduced new regulations to facilitate the import of medicines and medical equipment from Hong Kong and Macau to cities in Guangdong.

The changes, set to take effect in December, aim to ensure consistent management, improve alert and recall systems, and clarify regulatory responsibilities for these, as cited in a China Daily report.

The regulations also seek to ease the financial burden on patients by enhancing insurance coverage for imported drugs and equipment.

Measures include incentivizing insurers to develop plans with optimized compensation procedures and allowing the use of basic medical insurance funds to purchase health insurance.

Separately, Guangdong has also passed regulations to lower the thresholds for entrepreneurship and employment for Hong Kong and Macau residents in the nine GBA cities within the province.
