Daniel Cormier Reflects on Brock Lesnar vs. CM Punk at WWE SummerSlam 2013

– Speaking to Sports Illustrated’s Justin Barrasso, former UFC Champion Daniel Cormier recalled Brock Lesnar vs. CM Punk at WWE SummerSlam 2013 as part of Sports Illustrated SummerSlam Series. Below are some highlights:’

Cormier on how the match brought out the best in Brock Lesnar: “When it feels important, you get the very best Brock Lesnar, and CM Punk made that program feel very important. Brock likes to be challenged, and he loves to put on a show when it feels important.” Punk was exceptional in that program and in that match. When they were in the ring together, they made magic.”

His thoughts on Lesnar: “Brock is one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time. It almost feels like he was made to do this. And he was made to wrestle, and he was made to fight. He’s a once-in-a-lifetime athlete. Punk is one of the best ever, too. Put them together and look what we got. The chemistry was great. The respect was there. And it felt important. That’s a recipe for success.”

CM Punk will be in action in his first televised singles match in the WWE in over 10 years tonight at WWE SummerSlam. He faces Drew McIntyre, with Seth Rollins serving as the special guest referee. Tonight’s WWE SummerSlam 2024 will be held at Cleveland Browns Stadium in Cleveland, Ohio. It will be broadcast live on Peacock.
