Efforts underway to promote Olympic spirit: LCSD

Efforts are being made to promote sports culture in Hong Kong following the Olympic hype in Paris, the director of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) said on Saturday. Vincent Liu, who was at the Stade de France to watch the men’s 100m race, told RTHK that he was impressed by the SAR squad’s performance. “They put up a very outstanding performance. We got two gold and two bronze,” he said. “For athletes who do not get any medals, we also support them and hope for the best in their future performance.” Liu added there will be various activities on the Sports For All Day on Sunday to promote the Olympic spirit in the SAR. “We are going to organise a series of events in our 18 districts. I hope members of the public will support and enjoy these activities.” Fencers Vivian Kong and Edgar Cheung each won a gold and star swimmer Siobhan Haughey snatched two bronze medals at the Paris Games.
