Nintendo Profits Down 55% Amid Anticipation for Switch 2

Nintendo has reported a 55% decrease in sales during its first quarter of the 2025 fiscal year, which ended on June 30. The company was subject to slumps in both its hardware and gaming software divisions, falling short of analysts’ estimates.

Profit for the quarter totaled $543 million USD (¥80.95 billion JPY), a significant drop from $1.23 billion USD (¥181 billion JPY) earned during the same period last year.

Sales for the Switch had declined 46%, with the company selling just 2.1 million units of the Switch, and gaming also fell short, coming in at 41% fewer sales than last year.

The Nintendo Switch made its debut on the market eight years ago. With the Switch 2 on the horizon, it’s likely people are simply holding out for its release. In May, Nintendo’s CEO said that he would be making an announcement about the Switch’s successor within the fiscal year, which ends in March 2025.
