GMB's Rob Rinder fumes 'I'll have to move you on' as fiery Southport row erupts live

GMB: Robert Rinder twice interrupts Lord Hanson

Good Morning Britain’s Rob Rinder got involved in a tense row live on the ITV morning show when discussing the recent stabbings in Southport, which killed three young girls.

Rob was joined by his co-host Charlotte Hawkins to interview Lord Hanson in Westminster when things turned tense – and rather chaotic – on the airwaves. Rob was forced to warn: “We’re running out of time,” explaining: “I’ll have to move you on,” as the trio began speaking over each other.

The programme dedicated several segments to discussing the riots breaking out after the stabbings at a Taylor Swift-themed dance class in the summer holidays. Riots broke out in Southport, with thugs throwing bricks at a local mosque – despite the suspect having no known links to Islam.

The suspect has now been named as 17-year-old Axel Rudakubana after a judge lifted the ban on revealing his identity.

The show stirred further controversy as Richard Gaisford got Southport’s name wrong – incorrectly claiming the incident happened in ‘Southgate’ instead. Standing outside Downing Street, he said: “You’ll remember, after the horrific events in Southgate there were messages and news articles online saying it was all down to a Muslim asylum seeker…”

He added: “However that is clearly not the case. […] Axel Rudakubana is British born and raised.”

Lord Hanson appeared from Westminster on the show, only to be interrupted by Rob as the tension escalated. As Lord Hanson suggested the riots had been organised “on social media” or “in the street or in the pub”, branding it “criminal activity”.

Rob cut in to fume: “It’s not people organising in a pub! That’s where this darkness ferments! I’m going to have to move you on, because a great deal of what you do is stopping people showing up – in other words, deterrents.

“That means that they’re gonna get sentenced and go to prison, right, when they’re convicted in court?”

Later while discussing sentences for rioters, Rob interrupted again to say: “Hang on! Can I ask you, what sentences are you talking about? People care about this at home, right. They watch this, they want people to go to prison.

“In the last riots, we were talking about them earlier, people were automatically sent to jail. Is that your message, that you will be, through the Department of Justice, saying ‘If you take part in this thuggery, in this violence, you are going to prison?’”

But Hanson wasn’t keen on giving a direct answer, instead admitting: “Rob, you will understand that it’s not my decision to send someone to prison…”
