Microsoft Reveals a Translucent Xbox Controller

Microsoft has revealed its newest Xbox controller, a translucent Xbox Wireless Controller—Sky Cipher Special Edition. The controller is a throwback to the popular Y2K era when translucent tech was all the rage and almost no console or computer was spared.

The distinctive blue shell allows players to get a rare glimpse at how a modern controller operates. In contrast, the silver interior is visible through the tinted plastic for an elevated, futuristic look instead of the typical mismatched parts.

Details separate this controller from the cheaper translucent ones of the past as metallic triggers, a D-pad, two-tone thumbsticks and rubberized grips all come in either sky and dark blue, giving it a luxe feel. Together all the elements give the controller an out-of-the-box, geometric edge while remaining user-friendly to Xbox players.

Technically, the controller features 40 hours of battery life and the Wireless and Bluetooth technology connects to Xbox consoles, PC, iOS, and Android devices.

The new controller comes in a new packaging design to reduce Microsoft's carbon footprint. The new packaging eliminates single-use plastics and a QR code replaces the traditional paper manual for maximum efficiency.

The Xbox Wireless Controller—Sky Cipher Special Edition is available for pre-order today on Microsoft's website for $69.99 USD.
