Logan Paul Posts Retraction After Criticism For Calling Female Olympic Boxer a Man

Logan Paul found himself in hot water online after a now-deleted post referring to a female Olympic boxer as a man on social media. Paul, who is set to defend the WWE United States Championship against LA Knight at SummerSlam in Cleveland on Saturday, was among a number of people online who criticized Olympic boxer Imane Khelif’s 46-second win over Angela Carini as a “man” fighting a woman.

Paul posted a picture of the two in the ring in a now-deleted post that read:

This is the purest form of evil unfolding right before your eyes

A man was allowed to beat up a woman on a global stage, crushing her life’s dream while fighting for her deceased father

This delusion must end

Khelif, who is from Algeria, was barred at the last second from competing at the 2023 IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships. The IBA, which has been banned from the Olympics in 2019 over their being backed by Russian state energy firm Gazprom among other allegations about the organization’s integrity, said that both she and Lin Yu-ting did not meet eligibility requirements to compete in a women’s event. Both were cleared by the IOC to compete at the Olympics, who defended Khelif and Lin’s eligibility to compete and said in a statement:

According to the IBA minutes available on their website, this decision was initially taken solely by the IBA Secretary General and CEO. The IBA Board only ratified it afterwards and only subsequently requested that a procedure to follow in similar cases in the future be established and reflected in the IBA Regulations. The minutes also say that the IBA should “establish a clear procedure on gender testing”.

The current aggression against these two athletes is based entirely on this arbitrary decision, which was taken without any proper procedure – especially considering that these athletes had been competing in top-level competition for many years.

Khelif has always competed as a woman, including at the Tokyo Olympics, and there is no indication that she is transgender.

Paul posted a follow-up tweet which read:

“‼️ OOPSIES ‼️

I might be guilty of spreading misinformation along with the entirety of this app

Although she’s been previously disqualified for failing a “gender test” and has XY chromosomes, some sources say Imane Khelif was born a biological woman

I stand by my sentiment that biological men should not compete against biological women in any sport and if you disagree you’re a sick f**k”

To be clear, the statement that “a number of athletes” had XY chromosomes came from an interview by the IBA Secretary General and not an official statement by the IBA, nor did it single out Khelif although she and Lin were both disqualified at that time. Khelif and the Algerian Olympic Committee denied the claims by the IBA.

Paul has since deleted the initial tweet.
