BBC Breakfast fans demand Naga Munchetty is 'replaced' after inappropriate question

Craig Revel Horwood discusses Strictly scandal

Naga Munchetty's interviewing style has been criticised by BBC Breakfast viewers, with some calling for her and co-host Charlie Stayt to be replaced.

Some of Thursday's viewers complained that Naga, 49, "needs to read the room" when firing questions at guests on the programme.

During a conversation with Team GB rowers Lauren Henry, Hannah Scott, Lola Anderson and Georgia Brayshaw, who won gold yesterday in the women's quadruple sculls, Naga asked a rather personal question.

The athletes were in Paris following their 2024 Olympics success when they were speaking to Naga and Charlie via video link.

Naga said: "What we love about the Olympics is we get to know you guys, and maybe we wouldn't have recognised your faces before the Olympics and now we will."

Naga then brought up Lola's late father, adding: "And we love the backstories.

"You know, we're celebrating today, but everyone will have someone special that they're remembering and for you, I imagine one of those people is your late father."

The gold medalist started to get emotional and explained the support she's received has been "really touching".

But some viewers lashed out over the interview on X, formerly known as Twitter, as they felt the question was "too personal".

One disgruntled viewer penned: "Naga really 'pushing the boat' out this morning with inane comments and personal questions. Such a lack of EQ! Naga, she may not have wanted to talk about her late dad in this moment, and no, no one was at fault for 'leaving it late'! #bbcbreakfast."

"Naga needs to read the room… #bbcbreakfast," another person remarked.

A third wrote: "@BBCBreakfast first thing in the morning should be packed full of NEWS... But NO it's a pathetic light-hearted entertainment programme designed to boost the egos of Charlie Stayt and Naga Munchetty. Either provide some NEWS or replace them with Bert & Ernie & entertainment kids!"
