Tipping Point has captivated viewers for the past decade with its thrilling competition and the allure of its enigmatic machine. Contestants answer questions from Ben Shephard in the hopes of winning the coveted £10,000 prize.

The game's simplicity lies in answering questions correctly to earn coins that are then used to play the machine.

Each counter represents £50, and players can increase their winnings by strategically securing double counters. This not only boosts their earnings but also improves their chances of progressing to the final round.

It is in the final round that the jackpot counter, worth a remarkable £10,000, comes into play, with the potential for even greater rewards if a double counter is involved. However, the true fascination lies in unravelling the mysterious inner workings of the iconic machine.

The captivating machine, with its flashing lights and sound effects, is actually based on a "complicated system", as revealed by host Ben Shephard. Ben offered a glimpse into the intricate mechanisms of the show in a 2019 interview with the Huffington Post.

Shephard addressed fans' burning questions, explaining: "It's a really complicated system that is run by the gallery. It's such a complicated setup, which is why when people ask if we can take it on the road, that's the reason why we can't."

While the machine may be an automated marvel, it doesn't run itself. One insider broke down the pivotal role a human operator plays, stating: "He has to make sure the hydraulics are going at the right pace because sometimes they can be too fast. He has to make sure the hoppers that feed the counter are full," Ben explained.

Positioned strategically behind the mammoth contraption is a ladder for production staff to replenish the counters prepped for playtime. At the start of each thrill-filled round, 40 counters are randomly loaded in.

Off-camera, a quick-footed runner rushes in to tally the toppled counters, a vital count which Ben passes on to contestants, revealing their winnings. This same sprinter scoops up the dropped pieces afterward.

A meticulous shine-up session for the counters makes sure they're ready for their close-up, free from any blemishes that could show up on your telly. Despite Ben's assurances of the game's legitimacy, fans' imaginations run wild with theories, including claims of concealed "secret magnets" manipulating the action.

Fueling the fan frenzy, one observant viewer vented their theory on Twitter, with a post asserting: "#tippingpoint definitely a magnet underneath pulling that to the left, that's not physically possible otherwise! " They backed up their claim with a video snippet showing the counters taking an unusual detour.

The video has since triggered intense debate online, inciting a raft of theories among the audience. One individual took to Twitter, saying: "There have been many odd moves of the counters over the years. Fishy! ".

Another commenter was certain of foul play, stating: "I always think the machine is slightly tilted to one side."

Someone else shared similar suspicions, reflecting: "I've often thought there must be a magnet under the metal bed. It couldn't be static could it? ".

A further spectator was blatant in their assessment, describing the occurrences as "pretty scandalous".
