BBC Breakfast fans were perplexed as one regular feature was missing from the much loved show. Jon Kay and Nina Warhurst were at the helm of the BBC show as they discussed the latest news, sports, and weather.

But viewers at home were unhappy as the presenters failed to mention a huge change. They noticed that a popular feature was missing - the local news and weather.

Taking to social media, fans questioned what had happened and called out Jon for not mentioning it. One user posted to X (formerly Twitter): "If #bbcbreakfast have decided to drop all of there local news bulletins and local weather forecasts, how about mentioning it on the show. @BBCBreakfast @jonkay01."

Another user wrote: "Oi, oi, where's the local news? Another casualty of the Olympics #bbcbreakfast." Someone else asked: "#bbcbreakfast where is the local news and weather today?"

function loadOvpScript(){let el=document.createElement('script');el.setAttribute('src','https://live.primis.tech/live/liveView.php?s=114945&playerApiId=v114945');document.getElementById('ovp-primis').appendChild(el)} window.top.addEventListener('primisPlayerInit',e=>{try{if(e.detail&&e.detail.playerApiId==="v114945"){if(window.document.getElementsByClassName('jwplayer')[0]){e.detail.float('disable')}}}catch(e){}});window.addEventListener('DOMContentLoaded',()=>{setTimeout(()=>{if(typeof flagTcfLoaded!=='undefined'&&flagTcfLoaded===!0){loadOvpScript() ExpressApp.Log('[Load] OVP flagTcfLoaded',new Date())}else{document.addEventListener("tcfLoaded",()=>{loadOvpScript() ExpressApp.Log('[Load] OVP tcfLoaded',new Date())})}},1500)})

Over on the Digital Spy forums, some fans came up with their own theories as to why the local news and weather may have been missing. One user wrote: "Today's BBC Breakfast, like a few over the Games, was only scheduled for 45 minutes on BBC1 so an expense to have all the regions and Nations there to produce just one bulletin."

Another poster replied: "Looking at the 'live' schedules, I see Breakfast transferred over to BBC 2 at 8am this morning. I assume the original plan was for it to transfer from 1 to 2 at 06:45 this morning ?

"Of course, as we all know, BBC 2 can't carry English (or a Scottish) regional opt outs (for technical reasons) so that's another reason to have had no scheduled regional news opts (Though Wales and NI could have done). The obvious solution would have been to keep Breakfast on BBC 1, and have the Olympics on BBC2, but that's for another thread!"

A third user commented, saying: "Given the regional news, alongside the national news, is the only thing that moves the Olympics to BBC2 during the entire fortnight, I think it's pretty obvious the BBC consider it very important.

"No, there wasn't any this morning and there won't be tomorrow, but there's three days during the Olympics which will probably be the only three normal working days this year they don't do it, and the main programmes are all going out as usual.

"You may wish to compare this with ITV who dropped the main evening programme on several occasions during the Euros."

Due to the Olympics airing on BBC One, scheduling changed half way through the show, swapping to BBC Two at 6:45am.

The BBC news show will see further changes as the week continues. On Wednesday, July 31, BBC Breakfast will start at 6am on BBC One but will only run for 45 minutes before it again switches to BBC Two between 6:45am and 9am. On Thursday and Friday, BBC Breakfast will move to BBC Two at 8am.

BBC Breakfast isn't the only show impacted by the Olympics coverage, with Morning Live now off air for five weeks, returning on Monday, August 26. Meanwhile, The One Show aired its last programme for a while on Thursday, July 25.
