Britney Spears launches collab with Welcome Skateboards for custom decks and more

You can now get your hands on a Britney Spears-themed skateboard. Check it out below.

Skate brand Welcome Skateboards unveiled their collaboration with the singer last Friday (26 July), in a collection they say exists as a “celebration” of Spears’ contributions to pop culture.

Fans can buy custom decks and merch featuring iconic images from Spears’ career, including the cover of her debut album ‘Baby One More Time’, and photos from her famed 2001 MTV VMAs performance.

There are also hoodies, t-shirts, hats and water bottles inscribed with lyrics from her biggest hits, like “I Still Believe“, and “Not That Innocent“.

In an Instagram post, the brand said the collection highlights “an unexpected but deeply rooted connection”, between skate culture and pop music.

“From day one the aesthetic ethos of our brand has been about blending dark with light,” they wrote. “Wild and intense imagery colored up in neons and pastels. A punk song back to back with a pop ballad in a skate video. Some of the earliest video edits from Welcome featured Britney Spears’ tracks which provided the perfect soundtrack for showcasing this boundary-free creative spirit and love for artistic juxtaposition.”

They go on to say that the collaboration is “more than an ode to our favourite pop star, it’s a celebration of a generational icon who has influenced music, fashion, and pop culture as a whole for decades, and the enduring resilience required to achieve that.

“It is a testament to the way different subcultures that may seem at odds can coexist and enrich one another.”

In other news, Charli XCX recently revealed that she wrote some new music for Spears, but said it was never recorded. Late last year, it was reported that the singer-songwriter was working on material for the pop stars’ comeback album – her first since 2016’s ‘Glory’. Charli had previously penned songs for Spears’ 2013 record ‘Britney Jean’, although none made the cut.

During a recent appearance on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen, the ‘Von Dutch’ artist confirmed that she had written something new for Spears.

“It leaked to the press. Britney then did this post where she was like, ‘I don’t have random people write for me’,” Charli explained. “And I was like, ‘Oh. OK. Go off’. So I don’t know that she was a part of the process.

In 2022, Spears made her musical comeback with her Elton John collaboration, ‘Hold Me Closer’. In 2023, she also released ‘Mind Your Business’ alongside will.i.am, and released her memoir, The Woman In Me, which detailed her childhood experiences, career, relationships and 13-year conservatorship.

The Woman In Me sold over one million copies in the United States within one week of its release. In late October, Spears also revealed in a since-deleted Instagram post that a second volume of the memoir was being written, and was due for release in 2024.

Elsewhere, Ozzy Osbourne and his family issued an apology to Spears this week, after having recently made disparaging comments about her dancing in videos.

Halsey has also responded to Spears’ claims she felt “harassed, violated and bullied” by her new video Gia Coppola-directed video ‘Lucky’, which interpolates the classic 2000 Spears hit with her blessing.

Spears revealed she was “very upset” by the video, which references past outfits Spears has worn but portrays Halsey’s health struggles. Halsey revealed she had been diagnosed with Lupus and T-cell lymphoproliferative disorder in June this year. However, shortly after she walked back her statement on X/Twitter, writing: “Fake news !!! That was not me on my phone !!! I love Halsey and that’s why I deleted it !!!”

In response to Spears’ tweet, Halsey responded: “I love Britney!!!! I always have and always will you were the first person who ever made me realize what it means to feel inspired. And you continue to inspire me everyday.”
