GMB's Ed Balls slammed for 'car crash' Jeremy Hunt interview as fans say 'time to go'

Jeremy Hunt and Ed Balls clashed massively on today's Good Morning Britain. The former Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer was invited on to the ITV breakfast show as presenters Ed and Ranvir Singh gave him a grilling.

It comes as the current Chancellor, Rachel Reeves, accused the Tories for a black hole in the country's finances. Ed grilled the Tory MP, as he said: "If you take one number, £6.5 billion, in this year to spend on asylum hotel costs, that was the decision you had agreed with the Home Office that you hadn't made public to parliament. That's correct isn't it?"

Mr Hunt replied: "It is not correct no. It would not have cost that money if Conservatives had been in office because we would have had flights going to Rwanda..." But Ed then interrupted and spoke over the guest.

The pair then argued amongst themselves, each raising their voices hoping to have their opinions heard. Ed complained: "I am asking you a factual question", to which Mr Hunt said: "And I am giving you a factual answer".

As the men shouted over each other, fans fumed on social media. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), they complained as some said it was time for the ITV show to "get rid" of Ed.

One user wrote: "@GMB someone please get rid of @edballs …. The show is becoming so one sided now his missus is in Government #GMB".

Another added: "Hi Ed, get your wife on and give her a good grilling why don't ya! Is she planning on making an appearance at some point as Home Secretary? #gmb"

A third penned: "Ed your wife is @YvetteCooperMP so as home secretary what is she going to do with illegal asylum seekers!? The joke is on you, this is car crash tv #gmb."

Meanwhile, others compared Ed's interview techniques to those of Piers Morgan. "FFS @edballs .... Let the man speak and stop trying to be Piers Morgan#GMB," one user wrote.

While another added: "Ed Balls going full 'Pound shop Piers Morgan' on Jeremy Hunt #GMB".
