House Of The Dragon: Who is Nettles and why are book fans mad she's not in the show?

House of the Dragon Season 2 official trailer

WARNING: This article contains spoilers from the House Of The Dragon books.

Dedicated House Of The Dragon fans will know all about Nettles but who is she and why is she important to the story?

Sky Atlantic and HBO viewers have been thrilled with how George RR Martin’s House Of The Dragon novels have been adapted for the small screen, sticking closely to its plots.

However, the ongoing absence of one character in particular continues to disappoint book fans, leaving many to wonder if she will appear at any point in the show.

Who is Nettles?

Nettles appears in Martin’s Fire and Blood book and first shows up when Rhaenyra Targaryen’s son Jacarys Targaryen is looking for people who can ride dragons due to their Targaryen or Valyrian blood.

He was on the hunt for these people, also known as dragonseeds, in order to help fight against the Greens and Nettles is one of them to stand forward.

She is the only one to successfully bond and tame the wild dragon Sheepstealer and is also known to be the only black character in the novel.

Nettles continues to have a major impact on the story as she helps throughout the war and develops a relationship with Daemon Targaryen.

They become so close that Nettles ends up travelling with Daemon on his quest to find Aemond in the books.

But while other dragonseeds have already been introduced, there has been no word of Nettles.

Many viewers are expecting her to show up by the end of season two or at the start of the third series but there has been no confirmation so far.

However, when asked by Black Girl Nerds about her appearance in the series, showrunner Ryan Condal simply teased: “I would just say: ‘Stay tuned’.

So perhaps there is still hope for Nettles’ presence in House Of The Dragon after all.

House Of The Dragon is available to watch on Sky Atlantic and HBO.
