The Turkish Detective season 2: Everything we know so far

WARNING: This article contains spoilers from The Turkish Detective. 

The Turkish Detective has gone down a storm but what has been said regarding a second series?

Based on the novel series by author Barbara Nadel, the eight-part BBC Two drama is set in Istanbul and follows the investigations of Inspector Cetin Ikmen (played by Haluk Bilginer).

Assisted by his partners Detective Mehmet Sueyman (Ethan Kai) and Detective Ayse Farsakoglu (Yasemin Kay Allen), they investigate crime that’s “heavily rooted” in Turkish culture.

While the original plots derive from Nadel’s novels, the BBC series was written by Ben Schiffer who’s known for working on Young Wallander and Skins.

The finale is to air on Monday, July 29, at 9pm on BBC Two with viewers now starting to question the future of The Turkish Detective.

Taking to X, formerly Twitter, one fan wrote: Looking forward to season 2 hopefully, now I'm torn though between waiting for the show or reading your books.”

Another said: “Just binged watched #theturkishdetective by @BarbaraNadel absolutely awesome!!! Fingers crossed there is a season 2.”

Whereas a third commented: “Really enjoyed #theTurkishdetective series 1. Great characters, very intriguing & a fun plot twist. I really hope we get a series 2.”

While some fans are already assuming that a second series is in the works, The Turkish Detective has not yet been given the green light for more episodes.

In fact, even author Nadel herself isn’t sure of what the future holds for Inspector Ikmen and his team on the small screen.

Replying to someone’s comment on X, Nadel replied: “Well, I know I would say this, but I'd read the books.

“Don't know yet if there will be a series 2. Will let you know when I do, but nothing as yet.”

If The Turkish Detective does make a comeback, it is assumed that the plot for a second series would come from one of Nadel’s 21 books in the franchise.

In addition to this, actors Bilginer, Kai and Allen would be expected to reprise their roles.
