Eamonn Holmes issues brutal two-word verdict on Olympics opening ceremony
Eamonn Holmes expressed solidarity with those fuming over the "blasphemy" scenes during the Olympics opening ceremony, storming: "No-one cares about Christianity!"
Organisers were forced to apologise for causing offence in a tense press conference yesterday, insisting that the show's creative director was promoting inclusivity and did not mean to cause offence. However, Eamonn felt differently, branding it "a load of pretentious rubbish".
The event had come under fire after a woman and a group of performers from Drag Race France posed as Jesus and his 12 Apostles, mimicking the Biblical story of the last meal that would be eaten before the crucifixion of Jesus. Also present was French actor Philippe Katerine, who posed as Dionysus, the Greek God of fertility and wine during the controversial scenes.
He revealed that he'd spent two hours in the makeup chair being doused with waterproof blue paint, but gleefully declared himself an "exhibitionist". The scenes caused fury over the weekend, with even Twitter and Space X owner Elon Musk getting involved.

Later in the show, he also quizzed why the nation hadn't been quicker and more vociferous in condemning the acts of "blasphemy", exclaiming: "No-one cares less about Christianity!"
He added: "You never hear anyone saying 'We can't do this because it would insult Christians'," and wondered if there would be the same reaction if it had been another religion under fire.
Eamonn's co-star Ellie Costello echoed: "It’s so surprising that at no point during the rehearsals, someone didn’t say ‘this could be very disrespectful to any Christians’.”

Meanwhile, Eamonn acknowledged that he "didn’t know what [Lady Gaga] was singing about” after tuning into her performance on the show.
"I tell you what, I would have stayed with it to wait for Celine Dion, but I didn’t. Three hours of that? I’m not sure," he declared.
Organiser Anne Descamps issued an apology on Sunday, claiming: "Clearly there was never an intention to show disrespect to any religious group.
"On the contrary, I think [director] Thomas Jolly did try to intend to celebrate community tolerance. We believe this ambition was achieved. If people have taken any offence, we of course are really sorry.”
