Love Is Blind's Matt and Emma Willis spill four-word reason they signed up for UK spin-off

Love Is Blind UK Official Teaser

Love Is Blind UK presenters Matt and Emma Willis “couldn’t stop watching” when they tuned into Netflix’s original scandalous reality series.

The show challenges singletons to find love in pods in which they can only hear the potential match they’re talking to.

If the match is successful, they must then officially tie the knot without ever having seen their future husband or wife up until the day of their wedding.

Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk and other press, host Matt admitted: “I’m not much of a reality TV guy, so I was not not optimistic - but I wasn’t going ‘oh I’m going to be hooked on this’.”

However, once Matt became familiar with the show’s format, it was clear a UK version of the daring romance series could also become a hit for the streamer.

“Then I watched one episode and I couldn’t stop watching,” he added. “I think it’s the thing of it’s got drama, but it’s also quite cute.

“It kind of hits you in the feels and you want these people to win. There’s no kind of evil characters or anything... You just want people to fall in love, you know, and I like that.”

Matt’s co-presenter and wife Emma was also impressed with the show’s high stakes.

“And I think, also, at the end of it there’s a legal wedding right?” she added. “So it’s like, you can’t enter into it lightly.

“You’ve got to genuinely - really if you’re a decent human being - want to be settling down and there’s not a cash prize at the end of it. It’s not like Big Brother was.

“So everything in you hopes that everyone taking part is there for genuine and legitimate reasons.”

The real-life couple and presenting duo were then shocked to discover that many of the couples who found love in the franchise have managed to stay together despite the wild circumstances of their first meeting.

“And, as we started watching the American one because it had been on obviously previously,” Emma recalled, “We then started Googling and were like ‘Oh my god they’re still together, oh my god they had a kid...’

“It b****y well works!” she exclaimed, a perfect four-word summation of their reasoning to sign up for the new iteration.

“Obviously, it doesn’t work for everybody,” Emma went on. “But it can be a vehicle for people to find each other.

“And I’m an absolute stickler for matchmaking and love. And I love reality TV so I was a big old yes.”

The first season of Love Is Blind UK is starting soon, with four episodes dropping on Netflix in just over a week.

Love Is Blind UK premieres Wednesday, August 7 on Netflix. Part 2 will be released on August 14, followed by Part 3 on August 21.
