ITV McDonald and Dodds fans stunned as 'unrecognisable' pop icon makes appearance

McDonald and Dodds drive to meet Max Crockett

McDonald and Dodds fans were left blown away on Sunday night after pop icon Will Young and former Emmerdale actress Charley Webb made a guest appearance in the ITV drama.

Will Young played Greg DeVere while Emmerdale's Charley Webb portrayed Hilary McLean. Joining the duo were guest stars Hugh Quarshie, who played Clarence Adderly, and Outlander's Sophia Myles, who portrayed Geraldine Bridget DeVere.

Taking to social media just minutes into the episode, one fan asked: "Is that Will Young?#mcdonaldanddodds."

"Will Young? #mcdonaldanddodds," another questioned while a third replied: "I didn't even recognise him."

Someone else commented: "He looks so different," while someone else went on: "Charley Webb is playing a nurse, she probs stole the fatal drugs from work & was paid to kill him #McDonaldandDodds."

A sixth person theorised: "Charley Webb was on the bus so she’s in on it with Will Young Ha #McDonaldandDodds."

One fan shared: "#McDonaldandDodds Wonder if Debbie Dingle killed him."

The episode saw McDonald (played by Tala Gouveia) and Dodds (Jason Watkins) solving the mysterious murder of bus passenger Ian Andrews.

His body is found when he pulls into the bus station - although there wasn't a single eyewitness to his death.

However, after putting together the missing pieces of the puzzle, it didn't take the duo long to solve the case.

Earlier this week, Will let slip a spoiler for the episode during an appearance on The One Show.

"Yes, I'm playing a baddie," the singer teased when asked about his character.

Further prodded about future television gigs, he winked with a hint: "I might have a job next year, yes, I'm not allowed to talk about it."

McDonald and Dodds is available to watch on the ITV Hub.
