Sunday Brunch hosts halt show and issue apology as star drops F-bomb live on-air

Sunday Brunch hosts apologise after guest drops f-bomb

Sunday Brunch came to a crashing halt on (July 28), with Simon Rimmer and Tim Lovejoy needing to issue an apology to viewers.

They'd been chatting to King Curious, whose real name is Jim Sturgess when the talented musician went on to detail some of the things he'd scribed down to gain inspiration.

One of his innovative words being the F-bomb. Not wanting to say it out loud on television, Jim began to spell out the word instead which caused an eruption in the studio. The singer hadn't realised that also saying the letters to a swear word was also a broadcasting offence.

In the UK, television services must adhere to strict watershed rules, with broadcasters needing to take particular care with explicit scenes of sex and violence, and the use of strong language. The regulation means that no such content should be aired before 9pm on any channel.

Knowing that Jim had breached the rules, accidentally, the two hosts attempted to intervene, by shouting over him as they tried hard to restrict viewers from hearing the rest of the spelling, but sadly their efforts landed a bit too late.

Chatting to the presenter about his solo album, Jim started to explain: "It's hard finding a name, it's not easy finding a name for a solo album."

Tim told him: "It's cool isn't it," while wafting his LP in the air.

Returning to how he found inspiration, the artist added: "I'd scribble like words and stuff down in my notebook so that was a big part of what I do and lyrics and passages and things.

"I was trying to find a name, so I came across this kind of, just a sentence that I'd written down, that said 'I have no idea how this is going to play out but I am so f***ing....'"

At which point the hosts halted the show and both began to shout "Woo wo woh," loudly and synchronized to drown out the spelling.

Jim carried on with the conversation, not even realising his error live on-air. He went on to say: "Someone had spilled some tea," with his head in his hands, Tim stopped the interview to address viewers at home.

The host said: "Apologies to anyone that can spell," as Simon erupted into laughter, adding: "Lucky, it's our viewers Tim." The musician continued to look puzzled before he asked: "Surely you can say that on TV?"

"You can't," shot back Tim abruptly. "Spelling it out doesn't make it any better," commented the shocked TV presenter.

Jim argued: "Well you're not saying it out loud," as Tim retorted: "You are, you're spelling it out, man." The songwriter still didn't seem to understand and began to gaze around the studio for clarification.

After realising he was evidently in the wrong, he told the TV duo: "Well it's said now, innit," as the hosts struggled to contain their giggles.

Sunday Brunch airs every weekend, on Sunday, from 9:30am, on Channel 4.
