BBC Olympics pundit issues scathing three-word verdict on Paris 2024 opening ceremony

Olympics: Tom Hiddleston stars in BBC film

BBC presenter Michael Johnson didn't hold back as he gave his honest opinion on the Paris Olympics 2024 opening ceremony.

When asked by Clare Balding, Michael gave a brief five-word answer as he said: "It was different, and ambitious," pausing at the start as he thought of what to say.

This comes after the ceremony was dubbed the "worst ever" by bored viewers, with the wet weather spoiling the camerawork and microphones for people watching at home.

Meanwhile, the lengthy boat parade for all of the participating countries also left viewers going to sleep as they begged for icon Celine Dion to arrive.

Luckily, she did not disappoint, as she left viewers in tears with her emotional performance after vowing her Stiff Person Syndrome would not hold back.

As Michael gave his blunt response, fans rushed to social media to laugh, as one said: "Clare Balding:- 'So Michael what did you think' Michael Johnson:- “Erm it was different and ambitious”... Yeah that’s the polite way to put it!!"

Another added: "Clare Balding: 'Michael what did you think about that #OpeningCeremony?'.Michael Jordan: 'Er....it was different....The athletes looked like they enjoyed themselves.' Hilarious."

A third joked: “Plenty to digest from that truly original opening ceremony”. Clare Balding. “It was different.” Michael Johnson. “Wasn’t my favourite opening ceremony.” Rebecca Adlington. “Skip to Celine Dion.” Count Binface."

A fourth chimed in: "Michael Johnson: “it was different”. That’s one way of describing it I guess."

Viewers took to social media in their droves to hit out at the "dull" and "too long" ceremony, with many reminscing back to Danny Boyle's creation for London 2012's Olympics opening ceremony.

The huge event saw thousands of volunteers take to the stage to celebrate British institutions such as the NHS, as well as seeing a star-studded line-up, including Spice Girls and Paul McCartney.

Queen Elizabeth II even made a special James Bond themed appearance with Daniel Craig, as viewers saw 007 fly the late monarch in a helicopter to the Olympic Stadium and parachute out together.
