Taberon Honie comes closer to execution as Utah parole board denies commutation request

Utah’s parole board will not stop the upcoming execution for Taberon Honie, it announced Friday — putting an end to one of the death row inmate’s last chances to avoid his death by lethal injection in less than two weeks.

The five-member board announced it would not grant Honie clemency after holding a commutation hearing earlier this week, where they heard from Honie himself, his family members and family members of the victim.

“After carefully reviewing all submitted information and considering all arguments from the parties, the Board does not find sufficient cause to commute Mr. Honie’s death sentence,” the board’s decision reads. “The Board hereby denies Mr. Honie’s Commutation Petition and makes no change to the sentence imposed.”
