Prison officer sobs in dock as she admits inappropriate relationship with inmate

A prison officer cried as she pleaded guilty to having an inappropriate relationship with an inmate.

Kelsey Calvert, 28, faced two charges as she appeared at Teeside Crown Court in Middlesborough today.

One was for misconduct in public office by having an inappropriate relationship with an inmate at HMP Holme House, a category C’s men’s prison in Stockton-on-Tees, on and before November 22, 2022.

The other was for bringing codeine into the facility before the same date.

Calver, of Ryhop, Sunderland, admitted both as she sobbed in the dock.

Judge Richard Bennett adjourned the case for a pre-sentence report and told Calvert she will be sentenced on October 4.
